South African president told to resign

South Africa's ruling African National Congress (ANC) called on President Thabo Mbeki on Saturday to step down.

Mbeki has agreed to accept the ANC's decision once all constitutional obligations are met.

Mbeki has not been perfect but he was distinctly pro-business during his ten years in office which is why the Left, led by rival Jacob Zuma and dominated by the unions and Communist Youth wing of the ANC, want him out. At least Mbeki will have one feather in his cap: the power-sharing deal that he just brokered between Mugabe and Tsvangarai in Zimbabwe.
