Where no man has gone before

Some liberals really are traitors and hard-core communists but most of them probably aren't. They're just deluded pie-in-the-sky John "Imagine" Lennonists. Oh, okay, maybe they aren't deluded. Maybe they just can't think any other way. In fact, some liberal just can't think period.

But, seriously - the biggest problem that I have with liberals is that they think Europe is civilized and the USA is a bunch of rednecks and niggers. They are such elitist snobs, racists and bigots. That really makes me see red. Well, it makes me see liberals as reds.

Most of them haven't lived in Europe. They've been tourists oohing and aahing over all the old leaky rundown buildings. They gush over the "culture," "elegance" and "refinement" of Europe because that's all they've seen. They haven't seen the miles and miles of high-rise public housing full of lazy bums, preying on each other just like our ghetto gangbangers. They haven't seen the soccer hooligans rioting and killing each other with broken bottles.

When my mother came to the UK to see me, my stepfather's relatives invited her to stay with them. After two days with them, she phoned me and said she had to get out of there because, in her words, "they have got less class than tribal Zulus and live lower than pigs."

Yes, the lower classes in Europe are pretty low. And there's more of them in proportion to the whole population than there are in the USA. I've travelled across the States by car six times and met all sorts of people from billionaires to trailer trash and the one thing you notice is that most Americans think of themselves as middle-class.

This American "middle-class" can range all the way from the working poor barely making ends meet in a trailer (but who have aspirations for better lives) to successful wealthy farmers, small businessmen, doctors and lawyers. This socalled "middle-class" in the USA is most of us.

In Europe this group of people is divided into "working-class" and "middle-class." The "working-class" live in public housing and the "middle-class" rent apartments. Only the "upper-class" actually own property. (Thatcher tried to change that and succeeded to a point.)

Several generations of socialism has "lifted" the European lower classes into a simulacrum of "middle-class" but they have not achieved this through their own efforts and as a result are basically apathetic lazy people willing to let "Big Brother" government do the thinking and planning for them as long as they get free government services.

This dependency on the state has infantilized them. If you've ever known a European well, you will notice one thing: they are irresponsible and immature and love to turn everything into a joke BUT they are also pessimistic and fatalistic. How many stupid British movies have you seen which are very funny but they don't have happy endings and instead wind up with messages of bleakness, resignation and hopelessness.

The left elitists in the USA would like to see this happening here too because they detest the "lower" classes in America. They want to "tame" the "ghetto blacks" and "trailer-trash rednecks" and put them in a safe and secure petting zoo like the European hoi-polloi. They can't stand freedom. It's too messy and unpredictable. Freedom means having to accept "uppity negroes" and "rebellious rednecks."

I sometimes feel as if I have not made myself clear about why I detest the American left. It's probably for different reasons than most American conservatives but the biggest reason is because they look to Europe as a role-model and despise the model that our Founding Fathers created. They do not realize that European socialism is a step backwards and that the American Revolution is the greatest experiment in the history of this world and that we haven't even given it a real chance to work to its conclusion yet.

Why do they worship European socialism and despise American independence? Because they hate freedom - or at least they don't trust people enough to see where freedom will take us. And freedom will take us to places that the Europeans will never see.

For instance: the Europeans will never get us to the stars. You need brave adventurous pioneers to do that. Only American bravery and love of freedom and adventure will get us to the stars. That's why the Europeans hate us because we're strong and brave and adventurous. That makes them look like the lazy, scaredy-cat lounge-lizards that they are.

Maybe you think, "Why do we need to get to the stars?" Maybe we don't but we probably do need to explore possibilities for the future. It's a gamble but so was the Lewis and Clark Expedition and thank God for Lewis and Clark otherwise I would not be living in God's own country.

Maybe we do need to go to the moon for practical reasons like storing nuclear waste (yes, we need nuclear energy - it will free us from dependence on unreliable sources of energy.) Maybe we need to go the moon to build a stepping-stone to the stars. It doesn't really matter in some ways because you know we're going to do it anyway just because we can.

The Europeans will still be having committee meetings to discuss the pitfalls and dangers and uncertainties while we discover new worlds. That's why I hate our liberals - they look backwards to Europe instead of forward to the stars.

PS Okay, now I have to concentrate on getting the taxes ready for the accountant in the coming weeks but it's been fun having an extra day off to write. I may have time to write something now an then but maybe not enough time to leave comments on my favorite blogs. I'll try to make time to read them but, if you write anything really interesting, give me a heads-up by email.
