"Ideology is mental disorder"

I'm old enough to remember when it was said that communism was an "-ology" or "-ism" and that the opposite of communism was not capitalism but simply freedom; that freedom was not an "-ology" or "-ism" but was the natural state of the human race; that Marxism, Fascism and Nazism were easy to defend and explain because they were man-made "-isms" but that it was impossible to defend or explain freedom because it was not an "-ism."

Well, guess what? Capitalism aka freedom did become an "-ism" called "conservatism." It became an ideology and I'm as much to blame as all the other conservatives because I too began to define it, defend it, proselytize and push it. I can remember how heady the days of the "Capitalist Revolution" were during the Reagan years. I defended capitalism and defined conservatism it till I was blue in the face but sadly, by defining freedom, we too have become ideologists.

Still, defenders of freedom and capitalism are not quite as nuts as defenders of Marxism and socialism mostly because what conservatives are defending does not need to be deceitfully disguised. Defenders of socialism have to disguise their product because they know that it means curtailing peoples' freedom. They have to be deceitful because they are telling a big lie when they say that it is the solution to what ails humans. 100 million dead people know that Marxism/communism/socialism is not the answer.

So, unlike the left, we haven't had to resort to pathological lying which is a real mental illness.We haven't gotten quite as insane as the left yet but some on the right are getting there with their insistence on ideological purity, calling ordinary everyday people RINOs because they are not "ideologically pure" and generally behaving like communist/fascist/nazi party enforcers.

So its nice to read about the left being even loonier than we are.

Top psychiatrist concludes liberals are clinically nuts!

Just when liberals thought it was safe to start identifying themselves as such, an acclaimed, veteran psychiatrist is making the case that the ideology motivating them is actually a mental disorder.

"Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded," says Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, "The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness." "Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave."
