When someone gets a "bug in their ear"
When Andy and I got back from the RV Park yesterday, Chas came rushing up and said "Quickly, help me." An insect had flown into his ear and he couldn't get it out and it was driving him nuts. He had even tried using the vacuum cleaner to suck it out but it just kept buzzing away inside his head. I tried squirting it out with water and then peroxide. No luck so we took him to the ER where they removed it. It was a moth - one of those small "millers."
Apparently Chas had been down at the creek unclogging the intake so that he could pump water up to the tank when he suddenly felt something fly right into his ear. Fortunately we got home about 15 minutes later.
I'm glad it didn't happen to me because the creek is about a quarter of a mile from the house and a long way down in a steep-sided ravine and it takes me about ten minutes to climb back up the slope.
Here's Chas' account of it: How my Battle with "Mothra" put me in the ER.
